Maria was born in Mexico City. She has been singing since the first moment she spoke. At the age of sixteen she began her academic singing career at the Escuela Nacional de Música of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Finally she graduated as Ópera professional singer at the Escuela Superior de Música of Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico. She moved to Barcelona to specialize in early music at the ESMUC (Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya) and later she decided to stay in Spain to develop her professional opera career.Ever since, she has been member of many professional opera choirs and classic ensembles just as Liceu’s Opera Choir, Sabadell’s Opera Choir and Centre de Perfeccionament Placido Domingo’ Choir in Valencia City. As a soloist she has sung in Voces de Sor Juana ensemble, Amor Funesto Trio, and under the hand of Placido Domingo conduction in the Menotti’s Opera “Amelia al Ballo” in Palau de les arts Theater. In all of these classical contexts she uses the artistic name of Grissel Ruiz. In the modern music context she has been influenced by different kind of music styles such as musical theater, bolero, jazz, pop, Cuban trova and others. She has special preference of musical theater where she has had the opportunity to sing main roles such as Grizabella and Sillabub of “Cats”.She has been attracted by symphonic metal music because of the use of classical singing and the orchestral richness in its compositions.Because of her special interest in vocal care and health, she has also studied voice rehabilitation and speech disorders treatment, studies that has helped her grow in her career as a singing teacher, in which she has worked since 2005.
